PRP Facial Rejuvenation
Operation Description
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a treatment primarily introduced in surgery and orthopedics to expedite tissue healing and recovery. Its application extended to anti-aging medicine, earning it the nickname "vampire treatment." The procedure resembles mesotherapy, but instead of a mesotherapy cocktail, the patient's blood plasma rich in platelets is used.
Platelets are blood cells crucial for the healing process, containing growth factors and proteins that stimulate natural skin renewal and healing. This method promotes collagen and elastin production, essential proteins that maintain the skin's firmness, resilience, and radiance. Additionally, it facilitates blood vessel renewal, improving complexion and accentuating facial contours that may have softened over the years.
PRP can also be used for hair, eyebrows, and in combination with hyaluronic acid. Candidates
PRP treatment is suitable for all skin types and individuals seeking more intense skin care. Ideal candidates may include:
- Individuals experiencing skin sagging and initial signs of aging due to aging
- Individuals with skin hyperpigmentation
- Those with facial scars, often resulting from acne
- Individuals desiring a natural, synthetic-free improvement in facial appearance
Preparation
PRP treatment does not require special preparation. It is advisable not to use aggressive cosmetics on the skin two days before treatment and to generally be well-rested. Additionally, avoiding anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or aspirin, which can affect blood platelet levels, is recommended.
Operation time
The treatment commences with drawing blood from the patient's vein. The blood then undergoes centrifugation to separate the platelets. An anesthetic cream is applied to the face to minimize potential discomfort, and the PRP serum is injected into the skin evenly across the entire face. The treatment duration is approximately one hour.
Initial results, such as a fresher facial appearance and a radiant complexion, are immediately noticeable. Since PRP stimulates collagen and elastin production, which takes time, the facial results become more pronounced and better with each passing day, lasting up to six months. Accordingly, it is advisable to repeat the PRP treatment every 6 to 12 months to maintain long-lasting effects.
Recovery
Patients can resume regular activities after PRP treatment. Excessive sun exposure, swimming, sauna, and intense physical activity should be avoided on the treatment day, as well as the following day. Besides, aggressive cosmetics and makeup should not be applied to the face for the next 24 hours.
Safety precautions
As PRP treatment involves micro-needling, minor bruising from needle punctures, redness, and slight facial swelling may occur afterward. These side effects typically subside within next two days as the face recovers from the treatment. Severe swelling, bruising, and infections are very rare. When performed by skilled physicians trained for such procedures, as is the case at Colić Hospital, and with patients following all pre and post-treatment skincare instructions, serious complications can be avoided.
