DROOPY EYELIDS – A QUICK AND EASY SOLUTION

Droopy Eyelids – Causes and Symptoms
One of the facial imperfections successfully addressed through surgery is droopy eyelids – a condition where one or both upper eyelids are lowered. Recognized by the small gap between the eyelids and eyebrows, this issue is not only an aesthetic concern but also a problem that can impair vision!
Droopy eyelids can be congenital or acquired, persistent, or intermittent. If you notice that your eyelid(s) remains droopy and doesn't return to its original state even after a few days, consult a doctor.
The following symptoms may accompany droopy eyelids:
- Strabismus (Crossed Eyes): The same nerve controls eyelid movement and eye alignment, leading to crossed eyes.
- Double Vision: Sometimes associated with crossed eyes.
- Forehead and Eye Fatigue: Muscles in the forehead and eyes work extra to compensate for the droopy eyelid.
- Blinking Difficulty or Incomplete Eye Closure: The eyelid may hinder proper blinking.
- Watery Eyes or Dry Eye: Insufficient eyelid coverage can lead to inadequate eye moistening, causing increased tear gland activity.
Causes of Droopy Eyelids:
Eyelids play a crucial role in protecting the eyes from external factors and maintaining eye moisture through blinking. Droopy upper eyelids can result from various factors, and being aware of them allows for preventive action. If the problem is already present, aesthetic surgery can safely and effectively resolve it.
The most common causes include:
- Aging: The thinnest skin around the eyes, coupled with reduced skin elasticity due to aging, can lead to wrinkles and droopy eyelids.
- Genetics: Genetics can contribute to eyelid issues, even in younger individuals.
- Lifestyle Habits: Factors like the accumulation of fat, poor diet, chronic fatigue, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and sun exposure can lead to excess skin around the eyes.
- Health Issues: Thyroid and kidney problems, diabetes, various neurological conditions, and injuries or infections can contribute.
- Contact Lenses: Wearing contact lenses can increase the likelihood of droopy eyelids by up to 20 times!
What You Need to Know if You Have Droopy Eyelids:
If you're experiencing droopy eyelids, surgery represents an effective and permanent solution. Discuss your concerns with a chosen surgeon before the intervention. A thorough evaluation of the eyelid's skin, fatty tissue, muscles, eyebrow height, and eyelid edges is essential.
The surgery is minimally invasive, conducted under local anesthesia for upper eyelids and general anesthesia for lower eyelids, lasting around 30 to 45 minutes.
Recovery After Eyelid Surgery:
Post-surgery, applying cold compresses to the eyelids for the first 24 hours is necessary. Rest and sleeping with an elevated pillow are recommended for several days. Sutures are typically removed after a week.
Wearing sunglasses for a few weeks is advised to protect the delicate eye skin from sunlight, and potential complications are rare, often limited to temporary bruising or swelling.
Eyelid Surgery – Cost:
The cost of correcting and lifting eyelids depends on whether only upper or lower eyelids are treated, or both. Prices for eyelid surgery in our clinic range from 1000 € for upper eyelids to 1200 € for lower eyelids.
