When it comes to nose surgery, the price should not be the decisive factor because nose correction is something that will affect the overall appearance and beauty of your face. Inform yourself thoroughly before deciding on this step!
Corrective Rhinoplasty – What to Know and How to Prepare for Surgery
The nose dominates the middle third of the face and, if it is not proportional to the upper and lower thirds, it attracts a lot of attention from the surroundings and prevents other parts of the face from standing out and being noticed. Therefore, it is not surprising that nose surgery is one of the most common procedures. However, nose correction is not only done for aesthetic purposes but also to improve functionality if there are certain deviations and deformities. To achieve the desired results, depending on the initial appearance of the nose, some may need more significant interventions than others.
The procedure can alter the position of the cartilage, nasal bones, the tip of the nose, or the distance between the nose and the lips, as well as its width, shape, size, etc. Plastic surgery, in this sense, offers various possibilities, but they need to be tailored to the individual and the face shape. Therefore, it is crucial to consult with the chosen surgeon – present your ideas and desires, and experienced surgeons will advise you further, helping you find the best solution.
It is not advisable to perform nose correction before the age of 18, as only after completing puberty does the nose stop growing and changing. However, if it is a nose injury or deformity, nose surgery is the perfect choice. The surgeon will inquire about your medical history and therapies, examine your general health, analyze the appearance of the face and nose, and based on the obtained results, suggest individual possibilities, further measures, and preparations for the operation.
When it comes to rhinoplasty, preparation involves refraining from smoking and consuming alcohol, and a few weeks before and after surgery, it is recommended to avoid medications that thin the blood because all of this affects recovery and potential complications and risks associated with any surgery.
Nose Correction – How Is the Surgery Performed?
Corrective rhinoplasty can be performed through incisions made inside the nostrils, but the open approach is mostly applied in our hospital, representing a global trend in nose surgery in recent years. After this operation, a discreet scar may remain in the tissue between the nose, known as the columella. Fine and precise instruments are used to separate the nose's skin from the cartilage and bones, initiating reshaping according to the previously made plan. Excess bone and cartilage are removed, and if there is not enough, cartilage can be supplemented from other parts of the body, such as the ears or the deeper inside of the nose, while bone can be supplemented with an implant for a more harmonious facial appearance. Changing the position and shape of the cartilage and nasal bone will alter the appearance of your nose, and after some time, you will have the nose you have always wanted.
The operation can last from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure, and is usually performed under general anesthesia. After the surgery, tampons are placed in the nostrils, and a compressive mask is applied externally to the nose – this is removed after approximately 7 days.
Until the tampons and the mask are removed, you need to breathe through your nose, lie and sleep on a bed with a high headrest, apply cold compresses to reduce potential swelling and the risk of bleeding. Also, for some time, it is necessary to avoid excessive physical activity, blowing the nose, using glasses for vision and sun, as well as pulling clothes tightly over the face.
During the recovery, the appearance of your nose will change. Although initial results can be seen almost immediately after surgery, real results will be visible after a few months, or when everything heals and takes on its final appearance!
