Operation Description

Brachioplasty is a surgical method used to tighten the upper arms, reduce their circumference, and improve contours. This is achieved by removing excess skin and fatty tissue that lead to loose, hanging skin. Reconstruction is performed on the lower side of the upper arm, from the armpit to the elbow. In cases where there is a significant amount of fatty tissue in the upper arms, a reduction in circumference can be achieved solely through liposuction. Therefore, liposuction and brachioplasty are combined in a single procedure.

If you believe you are a candidate for brachioplasty, call +38169 3699801 to schedule a consultation. At Colić hospital, someone from the team of an expert plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery specialist will discuss this procedure in detail with you. Based on your expectations and their assessment, they will propose the best solution to you.

Candidates

  • Patients dissatisfied with the appearance of their upper arms
  • Patients bothered by sagging skin on the upper arms due to natural aging process
  • Patients experiencing sagging skin on the upper arms due to weight loss

Preparation

Before scheduling the brachioplasty operation, the patient undergoes a detailed examination and consultation with the surgeon. After the examination and discussion with the surgeon, the patient follows preoperative preparation, including an examination by a cardiologist, an anesthesiologist, and necessary laboratory analyses.

To prevent the possibility of increased bleeding, it is necessary to stop taking medications and supplements that affect blood clotting, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, diclofenac, aloe vera, and other herbal mixtures, ten days before the procedure. Additionally, smokers are advised to quit smoking at least one month before the operation to ensure a smoother procedure and recovery.

Operation time

Tightening of the skin on the upper arms is performed under general anesthesia. During the preparation for the operation, the surgeon identifies the precise areas from which excess skin needs to be removed and marks them. The incision is made in the armpit area or on the inner side of the upper arm, or combined if necessary. Once all excess skin is removed, the incisions are sutured, and the intervention is completed. The duration of the operation is approximately 1.5 hours.

Recovery

After the operation, the patient stays overnight in our hospital. Bruising, swelling, and mild tingling in the arms may occur after surgical tightening of the skin on the upper arms, but these gradually subside and disappear within a few weeks. The stitches are removed 10 to 14 days after the intervention, and during this time, a special arm brace is worn. To ensure a smooth recovery, the patient should avoid intense physical activity and carrying heavy objects for the next 4 to 6 weeks.

Safety precautions

Like any surgical procedure, there is a small possibility of complications during the brachioplasty recovery process. These may include infections, bleeding, swelling, and unwanted reactions to anesthesia. With our team, these complications are extremely rare, but it is essential for patients to strictly adhere to the doctor's advice, as well as preoperative and postoperative preparations, to completely avoid these risks.
