Vaginoplasty
Operation Description
Due to vaginal deliveries and aging, the skin of the vagina tends to loosen and wrinkle. Additionally, vaginal childbirth often leaves the vaginal opening widened and relaxed. Collectively, these factors can cause discomfort for women, affecting both aesthetics and functionality, as the sexual experience may be altered. Likewise, weakened pelvic muscles can lead to issues with urine retention in the bladder, which may become lax. Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to address these concerns, with the aim of narrowing and tightening the vagina. If necessary, labiaplasty, or the reduction of the labia minora, can also be performed alongside vaginoplasty.
If you believe you are a candidate for vaginoplasty, schedule a consultation at Colić Hospital at +38169 3699801. Candidates
- Patients who have experienced vaginal canal relaxation after natural childbirth
- Patients experiencing vaginal laxity due to aging
- Patients suffering from mild urinary incontinence (urine leakage from the bladder during sneezing, laughing, or coughing)
- Patients frequently experiencing vaginal dryness
- Patients seeking to enhance their sexual satisfaction
Preparation
Vaginoplasty, or vaginal tightening, can be performed under general or local anesthesia. If conducted under general anesthesia, laboratory analyses and an internist examination with an ECG are required. It is advisable to stop taking aspirin and herbal supplements that may affect blood clotting two weeks prior to surgery as part of the preparation for the operation.
Operation time
During the vaginoplasty procedure, excess skin that needs removal is determined first. Subsequently, tissues beneath the skin are tightened to improve the vaginal form. The next step involves narrowing the vaginal opening, concluding the intervention. The duration of vaginoplasty ranges from 45 minutes to one hour.
Recovery
After vaginoplasty, the patient is discharged from the hospital and returns home. The recovery period lasts about two weeks. Pain may occur in the initial days but quickly subsides. For this reason, it is advised for the patient to rest, especially during the first 7 days. The stitches are removed 7 to 14 days after the surgery. It is recommended to avoid any strenuous physical activity, sexual intercourse, or tampon use for 8 weeks after the procedure.
Safety precautions
Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure, and as such, it carries certain risks. Expected side effects include swelling, mild pain, and discomfort immediately after surgery, which typically subside within the first 3 to 5 days of recovery. Rare and more severe complications may include infections, bleeding, significant swelling, and bruises that do not diminish. All of these can be entirely avoided by carefully following the preoperative and postoperative advice provided by the doctors at Colić Hospital.
