Breast Lift
Operation Description
During the breast lift surgery, surgeon removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the breasts, and tightens the surrounding tissues to lift and reshape the breasts. Breast lift surgery can also correct asymmetry if it exists.
Frequently, breast lift procedure is combined with breast augmentation or reduction according to the patient's desires. Schedule a consultation at Colić Hospital where one of our expert doctors, specializing in aesthetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery, will help you make a decision based on their assessment and in line with your expectations.
Once the decision is made for a breast lift surgery, the type of incision is also determined to perform the procedure. There are three types of incisions for breast lift, each involving an incision around the nipple since repositioning the nipple is part of the breast lift process. The inverted T method involves creating one circular incision around the nipple, one vertical incision, and one horizontal incision under the breast. The second type of incision is vertical, with one incision around the nipple and another vertical incision extending from the nipple to the lower part of the breast. The periareolar technique involves only an incision circling the nipple but is not recommended for large breasts.
Candidates
- Women dissatisfied with the appearance of their breasts
- Women with naturally sagging breasts
- Women whose breasts have sagged due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, or age
- Women with breast asymmetry
- Women with nipples that are sagging and pointing downward
Preparation
Preparation for a breast lift surgery involves several preparatory steps. Since the intervention is performed under general anesthesia, laboratory analyses and an internist examination with an ECG are required. It is advisable to quit smoking a month before the surgery and to stop taking aspirin and herbal supplements that can affect blood coagulation two weeks before the surgery.
Operation time
After administering anesthesia, the procedure begins. An incision is made using the predetermined technique during consultations, starting with the removal of excess skin and fatty tissue. Once all excess is removed, the nipple is repositioned to its new location, in line with the new position and shape of the breasts. Afterward, the incisions are sutured, concluding the intervention. The duration of the surgery is between 2.5 and 3.5 hours.
Recovery
Patients will stay overnight at our hospital after breast lift surgery. We strive to provide exceptional service, making patients' stay in our hospital as comfortable as possible. Immediately after the surgery, patients may experience pain, swelling, bruising, and, in some cases, a feeling of pressure in the chest, transient numbness of the nipple, and difficulty breathing. These symptoms are expected and typically subside within a week to two days, and if necessary, they will be managed with medications.
After the surgery, it is necessary to wear a special bra that will keep the breasts in place during the recovery. Most patients return to work and daily activities within 5 to 7 days, but this depends on each individual. Two weeks after the surgery, when the wounds have completely healed, the patient comes for suture removal. It is necessary to avoid strenuous efforts and lifting heavy objects for the next 4 to 6 weeks.
